Strategic Equity
Investments
Access has made long term control-oriented investments in a series of large scale, industry leading, best-in-class platforms that are well positioned to compound and take advantage of positive secular trends.
These are mostly active investments where we add strategic value through board involvement; our longer term horizon can support more complex transformational strategies.
In addition, on a smaller scale, we also invest in high return opportunities where leading companies may be in need of capital for transformation. These may include minority stakes, credit or distressed situations, or opportunities arising from activism.

In January 2025, Constellation agreed to buy Calpine for $26.6B, creating the US’s cleanest and most reliable energy producer and its leading retail electricity supplier.
The deal ranks as one of the largest-ever transactions in the US power sector and among the most significant private equity exits in history. Calpine, the US’s largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources, was initially acquired in 2018 for $17 billion by Access Industries and a consortium of investors. The sale to Constellation underscores the critical value of Calpine’s reliable energy solutions, particularly as the US faces a historic surge in power demand fueled by reindustrialization, onshoring, and AI-driven demand.
